In an attempt to get away from the incessant noise of fireworks which bedevil us and more particularly our dog at this time of the year, we decided a weekend away some where rural might be the best bet. We plumped for Coombe Caravan Park<\/a> at the racecourse, just outside Salisbury<\/a>. A look at the\u00a0satellite view on Google map showed it to be relatively far away from habitation and this impression proved quite correct.\u00a0\u00a0We arrived around 5.30 – thus dark – after an appalling journey, which took around an hour more than it should, thanks to Friday traffic. There were only a three\u00a0or\u00a0four other units there and we picked a pitch well away from them, with great views of the countryside.<\/p>\n

The campsite seems to have a bit of a racecourse theme to it, which is quite\u00a0attractive\u00a0 It has all the things you’d expect of a good campsite, with a clean and\u00a0warm\u00a0shower block,\u00a0plentiful\u00a0water and waste points and a small shop (summer only) . \u00a0It is open all year round and dog-friendly. It was very quiet overnight, with no noises to frighten us or the dog!<\/p>\n

Saturday dawned bright but chilly and we decided on a\u00a0visit\u00a0to Salisbury town for a\u00a0spot\u00a0of light retail therapy and coffee. There is a thriving market and all the usual shops –\u00a0highlights\u00a0of\u00a0this trip being Hotel\u00a0Chocolat<\/a>\u00a0and Paperchase<\/a>. \u00a0As is\u00a0customary,\u00a0\u00a0we went and bought some lunch at the local Waitrose and drove to Old Sarum<\/a> where we ate our lunch and then went for a walk round the site. Great public toilet! Totally\u00a0unexpected\u00a0and very warm and welcome.<\/p>\n

Home for a cuppa and a snooze followed by dinner and an evening watching the usual Saturday night fare.\u00a0Another\u00a0peaceful evening – very\u00a0bright, cold and frosty. Perfect for fireworks! Luckily,\u00a0\u00a0once\u00a0again, \u00a0we were hardly bothered by them and had a happy dog.<\/p>\n

The owner had said that there was no hurry to leave as it was so quiet so we had a lazy morning, reading and relaxing, before packing up for the short\u00a0journey\u00a0home.<\/p>\n

Sadly this will be our last weekend away for a\u00a0while. We won’t be able to go away\u00a0for\u00a0our\u00a0usual\u00a0“wrapping” weekend, where we pitch\u00a0up\u00a0somewhere nice, take all our\u00a0presents\u00a0and wrap them, accompanied by the obligatory Baileys. We will miss it. But\u00a0sadly\u00a0(or\u00a0gladly actually) Paul has a back operation to face. Back in the New\u00a0Year!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
